The Archimedia Workshop announces support from William Blair & Company for Make No Little Plans: Daniel Burnham and the American City

October 24, 2008, CHICAGO— The Archimedia Workshop NFP announced support from William Blair & Company for Make No Little Plans: Daniel Burnham and the American City, the first full length documentary film about visionary architect and city planner, Daniel Hudson Burnham (1846-1912).

The film will have a public premiere in Chicago’s Millennium Park in September 2009, and will augment the major centennial celebration of Daniel Burnham and Edward Bennett’s 1909 Plan of Chicago.

“Daniel Burnham and William Blair & Company is a wonderful fit,” noted Director/Producer Judith Paine McBrien. “Each has made significant contributions to the Chicago community and both stand for the highest ideals of integrity, excellence and success.”

“As a Chicago-based investment firm, the city is very important to William Blair & Company, and we are pleased to help support the Burnham centennial project,” said John Ettelson, president and CEO of the firm. “Our employees and clients enjoy all Chicago has to offer, and help to support this wonderful community.”

Few individuals have had more impact on the American city than Daniel Hudson Burnham.
Burnham is best known for his masterpiece, the 1909 Plan of Chicago and one of his greatest legacies is Chicago’s magnificent lakefront. He also built some of the first skyscrapers in the world, directed construction of Chicago’s 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition that inspired the City Beautiful Movement and created plans for Washington, DC, San Francisco, Cleveland and Manila and Baguio City in the Philippines. His firm created such landmarks as the Flatiron Building in New York, Union Station in Washington, D. C. and the Field Museum in Chicago.

The Archimedia Workshop produces programs about architecture, development and urban design. McBrien previously wrote and directed Daniel Burnham: The Power of Dreams for Channel 11/WTTW’s Chicago Stories series. Production consultant Kartemquin Films is a widely renowned Chicago media organization that has produced award-winning public television programs for over 40 years.
